At 2:30 am in a full moon night in the silence of the mountains we get ready to take on the Yushan. It's a one hour drive to the trailhead. As we follow the navigation the road starts to get really narrow, the tropical, wet greenery is closing in on us, with every meter we crawl up nearer. Our car is barely narrow enough to fit this path. Eventually we make it, heading east on a better road, just for us to discover a giant gate blocking us from driving further. This is bad because we have a tight schedule, we planned on starting the ascend at 3:30 am because otherwise we would have to the descent in darkness not knowing how exhausted we're going to be. This leaves us only one option: we park the car in a dent on the road and bypass the gate to walk the rest to trailhead. It's a long steep ascend, endlessly twisting. The trees having a whimsical aura to them in the glooming dawn of the day...
